New HEC Energy Exhibit Opens at Explore More Discovery Museum

The Explore More Discovery Museum in downtown Harrisonburg has officially opened a new interactive energy exhibit in partnership with Harrisonburg Electric Commission (HEC)!

The exhibit highlights different types of energy, including electric and solar, and allows visitors to learn what it takes to bring electricity into homes, and how electricity can be generated. Through hands-on activities and interactive displays, visitors can experience what it’s like to be a line worker, learn how to generate solar energy, and charge an electric vehicle.

“We’re very excited to bring this type of educational content to the community in a way that teaches kids about electricity in a fun way,” HEC General Manager Brian O’Dell said.

To celebrate the grand opening, HEC hosted a touch-a-truck event on Newman Avenue to correspond with the exhibit’s opening on August 12, 2023.
