Google Chrome

We have found the latest update to Google Chrome is preventing users from logging into their online account.  There are a few temporary solutions you can use to get around this issue.  One is to try an alternate browser.  The other is to click to allow pop-ups from our website within Google Chrome as shown below.

Our developers anticipate other browsers will follow this example in the future and will require a similar exception to allow pop-ups from our website.

Utility Scam

Businesses (and some residences) are receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be a representative of the Harrisonburg Electric Commission (HEC).  This person states that your account is overdue and payment must be made immediately to avoid service interruption.  Payment is usually requested in the form of a prepaid debit card such as a Green Dot card.

  • HEC does NOT make calls after hours to request payment for delinquent accounts nor do our service men disconnect delinquent accounts after working hours.
     
  • If you receive a call from anyone requesting immediate payment or personal information, please hang up and call HEC yourself in order to verify the information being requested.
     
  • Do NOT call the phone number that the caller provides you.  The HEC phone number is (540) 434-5361.  Do NOT give information or payment over the phone to anyone who is threatening immediate disconnection of your service.
     
  • HEC office hours are weekdays 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Do NOT meet anyone here after business hours or on weekends.
     
  • Call the Police and report any suspicious behavior.

Third Party Websites

Harrisonburg Electric Commission would like to advise customers to only use our eBusiness (ebiz.harrisonburgelectric.com) website for payments to the utility, not third party websites.  You can access our eBusiness site by going to www.harrisonburgelectric.com and signing into your account in the upper right hand corner.  If you do not have a username and password, you will need to register as a new user to establish an online account.

Recently, customers have found a company with an app that allows them to make payments to many companies including Harrisonburg Electric. Unfortunately, a link to a third party site comes up when customers do a search for Harrisonburg Electric online bill payment. While some third party payment sites may be legitimate, Harrisonburg Electric has not solicited or partnered with any company to take payments for our customers.

It is not recommended for Harrisonburg Electric Customers to use any third party payment site. These sites can charge fees per transactions, but worse yet, the payments are not immediately posted to the customer accounts.

It is important to note that our goal is to provide our customers with the ability to pay their bills and post their payments in real time without incurring additional costs. Our website is available 24/7/365.
To ensure you are using the Harrisonburg Electric eBusiness site look for the ebiz.harrisonburgelectric.com in the URL after you have logged into your account.  The ‘https’ preceding this shows that your payments are processing securely.
