At Harrisonburg Electric Commission we make it our priority to keep power outages at a minimum; however, occasional outages will occur. Uncontrollable circumstances such as severe weather, vehicle accidents, damaged power lines and wildlife are the major causes for power outages. Regardless of the cause of the outage, we will do our very best to restore your power as quickly as possible. Power outages are an inconvenience to all of us, and we greatly appreciate your patience and cooperation when this happens.
The correct procedure for reporting an outage is to first make sure that the problem is not inside your home. To do this, check all fuses and breakers (particularly the main breaker) to verify that the problem is an HEC concern. When you are certain that there is an outage, please call during our normal business hours of 8:30am to 5:00pm. Nights, weekends, and holidays please call (540) 434-5363. HEC has trained personnel on call 24 hours a day to respond to your needs.
When reporting an outage please provide the following information:
- Address
- Name
- Phone
- A brief message of anything you may have witnessed or any unusual noises you may have heard that possibly caused the outage. This could be the most valuable information you can provide.
Once an outage has been reported, our crews will respond immediately. Again, thank you for your patience!
