Generation Department
Recently, in order to maintain our low cost rate schedules, the Harrisonburg Electric Commission installed 31.5 mw of generating equipment. This department of three employees now operates gas turbine (Jet Engine) power generators to supplement the peak power requirements for our community. With nearly nine million dollars invested and forty six thousand horsepower available, our "Peak" shaving program has been a valuable infrastructure improvement.

Expectations are that our generator capability will be an even greater asset with future power supply contracts.
