The Construction and Operations Department
The Construction and Operations Department is currently comprised of 21 employees who have been thoroughly trained to perform their jobs around voltages ranging from 120 to 230,000 volts. These employees have provided 318 combined years of service to the Harrisonburg Electric Commission.

The Department has a fleet of 16 vehicles that include three digger-derrick trucks, five bucket trucks, and four support vehicles.

Major duties and responsibilities of the Construction and Operations Department include:
  • Installation of all new overhead and underground facilities

  • Performing routing maintenance and up-grades on electrical facilities

  • Restoration of electricity after an outage 24 hours a day – seven days a week regardless of weather conditions

  • Assisting the Fiber Optics, Substation and Generation Departments construct and maintain their facilities
